Types of Veterans’ Benefits
Disability compensation is a tax-free monthly payment to a veteran for disabilities related to injuries or diseases that developed during active military service or were aggravated by military service. The basic benefit ranges from $123 to $2,613, depending on how disabled you are.
For decades, the veterans’ benefits lawyers at Jan Dils, Attorneys at Law, have helped our nation’s veterans obtain disability benefits. Call us toll-free at 1.877.Veteran (877.838.3726) or use our online contact form. We concentrate on working with veterans and their families because we respect the service that veterans have given our country. We believe veterans with disabilities deserve all the benefits offered by a grateful nation. As part of our personalized service, we do not charge veterans unless we are successful in obtaining disability benefits for our clients.
Several different disability benefits are available. We offer experienced and professional assistance to help veterans obtain disability benefits for their service-related disabilities, including disabilities from:
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Injury from chemical exposure such as Agent Orange, nerve gases, mustard gas and toxic chemicals
Individual Unemployability
As part of the VA’s disability compensation program, some veterans are eligible to receive increased benefits if they are unable to maintain gainful employment as a result of their service-connected disability. Gainful employment is work at which non-disabled individuals earn their livelihood.
You may be eligible to collect disability compensation at the 100 percent rate, if your service-connected disability prevents you from keeping gainful employment and your disability was rated at 60 percent or more.
You also may collect compensation at the 100 percent rate if you have two or more disabilities with at least one disability scored at 40 percent or more with a combined disability rating of 70 percent or more.
Under special circumstances, veterans may receive Individual Unemployability benefits if their disability rating is less than the threshold, if they have evidence of unusual impairment to earning capacity (such as frequent periods of hospitalization).
Dependency and Indemnity Compensation
The VA also offers a monthly benefit to eligible survivors such as spouses and children of certain members of the military service:
- The veteran must have died on active duty, active duty for training or inactive duty training
- The death must have resulted from a service-related injury or disease
- The vet must have been receiving compensation for total disability related to military service at the time of their death from a non-service related injury or disease.
If you think you may be eligible for disability benefits on the basis of your service-related disability, unemployability, or death of a parent or spouse who served in the military, contact Jan Dils, Attorneys at Law, today for a free consultation. We can offer guidance regarding your eligibility. And as a reminder, we do not charge veterans unless we are successful in obtaining disability benefits for our clients.
